Sébstien Loeb is back in a WRC car. Or at least, he is back in a *future* World Rally Car. The end of the era of the Sébastiens may be upon us, with Loeb having long retired from full-time rallying and Ogier now following him, but it turns out we, and they, just can’t quite move on.
Video: Sébastien Loeb tests 2022 Puma rally car
While Séb Ogier has confirmed he’ll be rallying with Toyota in 2022, for a select set of events Séb Loeb has yet to confirm whether he’ll be doing the same, but he has been spotted putting in some hard testing in the new Ford Puma ST Rally1 car.
We think there are three things to showcase from this tarmac test in Spain. First: Loeb still has it, just look at the extreme cuts he takes at around 2:40 into this video. Second: The Puma ST looks and sounds pretty awesome, while looking a little bit of a handful, certainly on power (maybe to do with its new hybrid boost?). Finally, and possibly most importantly: It still spits flames.
While we’re very excited to see the new hybrid world of rally showcase the talents of upcoming young guns like Kalle Rovenperä and Oliver Solberg, there’s no denying that it’s nice to see the most successful rally driver of all time back at the wheel.
