One of the most unusual and mouth-watering of all of the lots at the Bonhams sale will be the 25th example of the 77 Aston Martin One-77s built.

The One-77 developed in 2008 and 2009 with the aim of eclipsing any previous Aston Martin road car in terms of performance and desirability. The One-77 continued Aston Martin’s tradition of producing limited edition, hand crafted exotica for the wealthy aficionado, best exemplified by the DB4 GT Zagato of the 1960s.

After previews at the 2008 Paris Salon and 2009 Geneva Show, the finalised production 7.3-litre One-77 made its official debut in April 2009 at the Concorso d'Eleganza Ville d'Este to huge acclaim. It was the fastest and most powerful Aston Martin ever built, with a top speed of 220mph, and also the most expensive, carrying a price tag of £1,150,000. The company invited customers to put down a deposit of £200,000 and had no trouble selling all 77 cars, production of which was completed in 2012.

The 7.3-litre version of Aston Martin's existing 48-valve V12 engine enables the One-77 to breach the magical 200mph barrier, with the engine extensively reworked by Cosworth Engineering to produce 750bhp and 553 lb ft of torque – making it the world's most powerful naturally aspirated road car engine at the time of the One-77's introduction.

Aston Martin claimed that the model's top speed was '220.007mph', referencing the company's long-standing association with the 'James Bond' movie franchise, while the 0-100 mph dash was accomplished in around 6.9 seconds, placing the One-77 on a par with contemporary rivals such as the Ferrari Enzo and Konigsegg CCX.

Ordered directly from the Aston Martin factory and delivered new in Switzerland, this One-77 – number '25' of the 77 produced – was not registered until 2014 when the owner drove it for the first time. Finished in Bronze Pearl metallic with Ivory Bitter Chocolate interior, the car has covered less than 550 miles since delivery, and it is presented in effectively 'as new' condition.  The Aston Martin is estimated to sell for between £1.4m-£1.8m at the Bonhams Monaco auction.
