It is easy to believe that Rolls-Royce sometimes creates beautiful things just for their own sake, deploying its richness of design, craftsmanship and materials simply because it can – and that people will get pleasure from seeing the result. It’s a nice thought in a commercial world…
Such is the case with the latest Rolls-Royce Bespoke models from Goodwood. Their inspiration? The island of Sardinia. There are two cars, Wraith and Dawn, bespoked to reflect the glories of the Mediterranean island’s Costa Smeralda coastline. The pair are the centrepiece for the opening this week of the Rolls-Royce Summer Studio – a sort of very posh pop-up dealership – in the island’s swanky Porto Cervo marina.
As such the “Dusk Till Dawn” duo, as they have been named, are unique one-offs and won’t be popping up in a showroom near you any time soon. Rolls-Royce hopes that by displaying such creative freedom they will instead inspire customers to commission their own bespoke masterpiece, what the firm calls “personal legacies”. Yes, even if the Rolls-Royce in question is inspired by the Isle of Wight rather than the isle of Sardinia…
Enjoy the pictures. It’s always good to see inside someone else’s Rolls-Royce and these two do not disappoint. In case you haven’t worked it out the Wraith coupe is Dusk – all twilight hues inside and ostrich leather – while the convertible Dawn reflects the Costa Smeralda itself. Emeralds then: from the emerald green exterior to the green leather and, on the facia, emeralds and mother of pearl set in white gold in what Rolls-Royce calls “a timeless memory of the beguiling island.”
These ultra-special, special-editions even come with floor mats for the boot! But in teak…
Just one problem really: for your next holiday on the Costa Smeralda would you take the Wraith or the Dawn?
