It’s all very well and good looking over an article on a car’s debut with some glossy (if somewhat artificial looking) renderings and heavily edited manufacturer photography, but until you’ve got some in-person shots, it’s tough to fully form an opinion. Here are some of GRR’s Detroit show floor favourites.

Detroit 2017: Our favourite cars in the metal
Audi Q8 Concept
An ice-cool German that you can’t buy yet. The Q8 concept is a preview of a model that’s been in the pipeline for some time. Future-proof drivetrain and interior tech’ combined with the contemporary modern style only Audi can carry off, might just make this entry into the SUV Coupe segment cool…
Kia Stinger
Here’s a Korean curveball to top them all (for now). An overtly sporty executive saloon in broadly the same vein as the Alfa Giulia, with “Kia” written atop its snout. No badge snobbery here, it looks properly smart under motor show lights in all of the three colours in which they presented it.
Infiniti QX50 Concept
Americana repurposed for European roads and possibly the most serious pick, has some serious appeal. The QX50 concept is a preview of a model that we hope carries over the style, lovely interior design and apparent quality this concept rocks. The production car should receive some genuinely revolutionary engine tech, too. For Infiniti’s sake, it had better get Audi Q5 owners rethinking their brand allegiance. The Audi looks a bit conservative by comparison…
Ford GT
Yes, it’s sort of old news now, but what will be remembered as one of the most hotly anticipated supercars of this decade is finally ready. The production version remains faithful to the sensational concept , and we know it can throw punches at Le Mans. Now it needs to face off against the road-faring establishment. We’ve crossed everything in the hope we’ll see it in action at FOS…
Dodge Challenger Shakedown
A mad final entry. The Dodge Challenger Shakedown isn’t going into production. But if you’re Dodge and you have the means to produce a one-off old school Challenger with weapons-grade modern Hellcat frippery, that’s exactly what you do! It looks utterly awesome on display.
