Roush reveals 750PS Mustang Stage 3

American high-performance tuner Roush has unveiled its latest Stage 3 package for the Ford Mustang. A big supercharger, along with supporting componentry, boosts Ford’s 5.0-litre V8 from the mid 400PS range to a GT500-rivalling 750PS (560kW) and 908Nm (670lb ft).

In terms of performance, you’ll be getting to 62mph in under four seconds, though there’s no word on the top speed. Given the power and the Mustang’s gearing, minus a limiter, we’d wager this thing could hit the double-tonne. In terms of the quarter-mile dash, it’ll crack it in 11.2 seconds. For reference, it’s claimed a GT500 (ten-speed dual-clutch) will nick it in just under 11 seconds.

Will all this power and performance be reliable? As standard, there’s an extensive cooling package, involving hardware and added heat extraction vents. Roush is a big name in the business and has been for decades, so it doesn’t put out products without a promise. As such, your 750PS is warrantied, on a limited basis at least, for five years of 60,000 miles.

Of course, 750PS and the approximately £20,000 you’ve paid for it is a fair bit to shout about. So for your money, there are some aesthetic changes too. New grilles, the aforementioned vents, new Roush wheels with new Continental tyres. There’s also a new active wing. As for getting the car to literally shout, well, this is a 750PS supercharged Mustang. Fear not. It has a voice, coming courtesy of the optional H- or X-pipe exhaust systems, to complement the standard active exhaust.

To help you not add to the Mustang stereotype at your local car meet is a special Roush tune for the MagneRide magnetic dampers, as well as a ‘GT’ brake upgrade at the front from Brembo. On the inside, reminders of your Roush upgrades are aplenty. Customised leather seats can be joined by an optional race steering wheel. If your car is the ten-speed, you get performance paddle shifters too.

For around £4,000 less than the starting price of a GT500, you can buy a brand new Mustang GT premium and have this Roush Stage 3 package fitted. Would you consider it? We like the looks compared to the Shelby. It’d be interesting to compare the two...
