Gallery: The classic stunners of the Bonhams Quail auction
What better way to kick off GRR’s trip to Monterey Car Week than a visit to the Bonhams Quail auction? If you’re looking for a stunning mix of American and European road and racing legends, look no further.
Hailing from the USA and on the ‘we can’t believe people know how to drive these’ side of things we had a 1903 Oldsmobile Model R and a 1920 Stutz Series H Bearca among many other wild, pre-war beauties. At the more modern end of the spectrum we were delighted to see a 1956 GMC Blue Chip 100 pick-up, a 1968 Chevrolet Corvette C3 Roadster and a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible. From the Goodwood side of the pond we found the perfect spec 1968 Mercedes 280SL, with green paint and a green interior, plus a Jaguar E-type that came with instructions for it not to be washed (it hasn’t been cleaned since being put away in storage in 1968) and a beautifully bright 1938 Bugatti Type 57C Atlante.
There were plenty more fantastic machines, but to list them all here would, quite frankly, mean we list every car in the auction. So the best thing to do is scan this delightful set of images.
