Bentley is readying a big surprise for the Geneva Motor Show in March – the Bentley Mulliner Bacalar, a car to represent “grand touring at its most exhilarating”. And if the wheels are any guide it’s going to look pretty tasty …

The new wheel design and the name are pretty much all that Crewe is sharing with us for now, ahead of the Bacalar’s moment in the Swiss spotlight on 3rd March.
However, expectations are rising that this will be far more than a posh Mulliner makeover. Bentley is billing the big reveal as “the future of coachbuilding”. The Bacalar then is odds on to be a bespoke Mulliner model, a limited-edition coachbuilt GT from the world’s oldest surviving coachbuilder. The design is said to draw inspiration from Bentley’s centenary concept car, the EXP 100 GT.

And why Bacalar? It is the name of a town in south east Mexico on the shores of Lake Bacalar – also known as the Lagoon of Seven Colours after its crystal waters in many shades of turquoise.
At least we can guess what colour the car will be when the covers come off!

Bentley has today released a photo of the Bacalar's interior ahead of its reveal. As you might expect, it's dark and doesn't reveal an awful lot, but it looks to be as stylish and comfortable as you'd expect for an all-new Bentley. Most importantly, however, Bentley has said that the Bacalar is a strict two-seater, the first since the 1930s.
It also looks as though Bentley has quite deliberately chosen to use different materials in the cabin, with a nice mix of leather and what looks like cloth. Is Bentley taking a closer look at sustainability with the Bacalar?
