The My Ami Cargo is the world's cutest van

It’s the unlikely EV with which Citroën has captured the hearts of France’s Citadins. And the adorable Ami will soon serve a whole other purpose, with the announcement of the My Ami Cargo – a light commercial vehicle variant of the diminutive two-seater.

You may be wondering exactly where the cargo will fit in the 2.41m long, 1.39m wide and 1.52m tall vehicle (we certainly were), but by removing the passenger seat, Citroën has made way for a total load capacity of 400-litres and payload of 140kg. It’s said that 260-litres can be contained within a seven-part polypropylene module, while the remainder is stored in a variety of other innovative solutions, including a removable 40kg-bearing shelf, which can also be used as a mobile desk.

A secure partition between the cargo and the driver guarantees safety, while the two-way adjustable floor can be raised and locked vertically out of the way, or lowered horizontally to the level of the vehicle floor, in which configuration the vehicle can carry objects up to a maximum length of 1.20m.

From e-commerce to food delivery, local authority and even tradespeople such as plumbers, electricians and locksmiths, the My Ami Cargo’s adaptability will allow it to fulfil a variety of uses in an affordable, eco-friendly manner, says Citroën.

Aimed at ‘last-mile delivery drivers’ and space-starved business operators in urban areas, the My Ami Cargo delivers the same zero emissions figures as the standard model, namely a range of up to 47-miles from a 5.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and a top speed of 28mph from its 8PS (6kW) electric motor. To charge it to full from a household socket takes just three hours.

While its availability in the UK is yet to be confirmed, the My Ami Cargo will go on sale in France from early June, starting from €6,490, after the €900 Government eco bonus, and with leasing options from just €24.18 per month. And as on the original Ami, businesses will be able to personalise their fleets, with logos and custom colour schemes.
