Your BMW can now pay for your parking

No-brainer idea of the year so far? It has to be a car company teaming up with RingGo – not the ex-Beatle but the car parking app that can be useful and infuriating in equal measure.

We’ve all been there: find a parking space, find your phone, register your car, enter the location number, scroll through menus for time required… and then as often as not get one of those “computer says no” type messages that makes you want to throw your phone out the window. And parking was all so simple when we just threw a few coins in a meter.

But how does this sound: find your parking space and them simply click on the RingGo app on the car’s infotainment screen. Navigation, parking and payment all in one seamless operation without the need for a phone or cash.

The car company that has come up with this masterstroke? BMW. All new BMWs will have the RingGo app on their cars’ iDrive infotainment system, while if you already own a BMW with operating system 7 and built since July 2018, the app will be installed automatically as an over-the-air update. In total that means about 150,000 BMWs in the UK can now park without pain.

Other car makers will surely follow…
