Before Goodwood Revival 2022 opened its gates to throngs of historic motorsport fans for day two, our photographers were out and about, snooping around the paddocks for an exclusive preview of what’s turning out to be another memorable event.
Walking amongst the world’s greatest collection of historic racing machinery, a dawn chorus of three Spitfires with their Rolls-Royce Merlin engines spluttering into life serenaded our team. And as mechanics, owners and drivers alike began making early morning preparations to cars and bikes, a sense of occasion was brewing alongside the steaming teapots.
With some cars still under their covers, and others offering a tantalising glimpse of perfectly restored paintwork or untouched patina, the walkaround has an art gallery beauty to it. But don’t be fooled. In a couple of hours, all of these rare, magical and mercurial machines will come alive. Testing their mettle on track, as they were always designed to do.
