Is Gordon Murray the ultimate petrolheads’ petrolhead? We all know the legendary designer’s racing cars and the various road car projects he’s been a part of rank supreme among those of us into everything loud, fast, and of course, lightweight. But what does the man himself count among his favourites?

Thankfully, the man himself took us on a little paddock tour at last year’s 79th Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport, presenting some of the cars that mean the most to him.
Unsurprisingly, Murray has impeccable taste, and a clear preference for the clean, featherweight features his cars – most notably the new T.50 and T.33 supercars – tend to exhibit.
Alongside two of his ‘bookend’ creations, the IMA-Ford Special he lovingly refers to as ‘T.1’, and the new T.50, the original supercar gets some love. Murray reckons that the “beautifully styled” Lamborghini Miura has a modern-day soulmate in the T.50, both of which make the absolute best use of a 4.0-litre V12.
A number of cars ‘typical’ of Murray’s taste make the cut. “Small, nicely, proportioned, and fun to drive. That’s in a nutshell,” he tells us of the Porsche 550 Spyder, the Fiat Abarth 1000 SP and the ultra-rare De Tomaso Vallelunga. Other cars gaining the nod include lightweight specials from Lotus, Osca Zagato and further entries from Abarth and Porsche. Which one are you taking given the chance?
The 80th Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport takes place on the 15th and 16th April 2023, and you can watch every second of the action right here on GRR.
