During our recent Carpool trip, around about the time we got to the start of Rogate’s speed limit, Gordon Murray summarised what he likes about design. “It’s about problem-solving – that’s what fascinates me. Take that sign as an example – you could easily make a better version of it, but that doesn’t interest me.”
Goodwood Carpool – Gordon Murray
His “problem solving” is perhaps best portrayed in his account of how he managed to make refuelling work in Formula 1 back in 1982. His life, though, has been a series of problems to be solved. How do you redefine what a supercar is capable of? How do you claw back downforce in F1? How do you bring F1 technology to cheap road cars?
Gordon is a fascinating person – I hope you enjoy our trip as much as I did.
