The 2000s may well have been the greatest for racing games. The output of the first decade of the 21st century still had some of the innocence of the earlier days of computer gaming, but the hardware games worked on began to let developers really experiment.

We think that this was the decade that saw the greatest games yet in both the Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport franchise, while Colin McRae Rally 2.0 set the standard for rallying games to come.
But, if you weren’t really looking for a serious game, the likes of Burnout were providing some properly left field fun, so every niche was catered for. It truly was a golden age for all gamers.
