The first trailer for the F1 2021 game has been revealed, asking gamers "how far will you go before you reach your 'braking point’". It’s a rather moody number that’s big on drama and low on detail. But there is a good amount we now know about the upcoming release.

New is the story mode, called Braking Point, which also features an option for cooperative play with a friend for the first time. Players will be starting from Formula 2 on their rise to an F1 drive. Fierce rival Devon Butler returns to be your foil in that journey.

Also new is the option of seven iconic F1 drivers, yet to be named, available in the My Team career mode, though these will only ship for those who get the Deluxe edition. On the flip side, there’s also the option of Real-Season Start, which allows you to join a season part-way through as any of the real-world drivers, in their real-time driver and constructor championship position.

New to this season of F1 are Portimao, Imola and Jeddah. So too will they be available on the game in a free post-launch update. Next-gen gamers can expect a commensurate ‘uplift’ in the visuals of the game on their Xbox Series X and PS5 consoles.

This is the first F1 release with EA games at the reigns of Codemasters, who took control of the long-time F1 game developer in a $1.2 billion merger officially on February.

The F1 2021 game will be released on 16th July 2021. More details, including details on the historic car list and event offering, will follow between now and then. And if you love F1 and gaming, make sure you read our list of the 10 best F1 games of all time.
