Video: Onboard growling Ford GT Mk7 flies round Daytona

OK, so the words 'Mk7 Ford GT' might not mean a lot to you, but it's the racing version of the mid-2000s rebirth of Ford's mighty GT. Perhaps not as iconic as the ones that came before it in the 1960s, but perhaps rarer when you think about it.

There weren't a lot of Ford GTs that went racing. There's a few famous versions, like the Robertson Racing car that finished third at Le Mans in 2011, but other than a couple that raced in the short-lived GT1 World Championship, they are few and far between.

So catching up with one, in this case in a fetching silver and purple livery, is always a pleasure. Riding inside one is even better. This GT still has a sequential gearbox, meaning the driver can't just spend their life with their hand glued to the wheel, and it sounds absolutely spectacular, with that 4.7-litre V8 really singing its way round the banking of Daytona.

Today the cars are out for some practice, but at the weekend it all gets a but more serious, and seeing this car at night should be spectacular.
