The fifth round of the MotoGP season at Le Mans is the first of two that will go live on ITV4 this year. The British Grand Prix at Silverstone on 29th August will be the second. ITV did however get rights to broadcast MotoGP highlights for the entirety of the season in 2021.
BT currently own exclusive rights to all other live coverage until 2024, with races showing on the BT Sport subscription service. It first acquired those rights from the BBC in 2014, which had broadcasted live MotoGP racing for the prior ten years, since 2003.
“Dorna Sports is delighted to confirm free-to-air coverage of the SHARK Grand Prix de France across the UK,” MotoGP confirmed in a statement.
“The FIM MotoGP World Championship races of all three classes – MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 – will all be shown live on ITV4 on Sunday 16th May.
“ITV4 became the new home of free-to-air MotoGP highlights at the start of 2021, with a comprehensive package covering the best of each race weekend on Monday evenings.
“Now, the first of two races to be shown live in 2021 will provide supplementary free-to-air race day broadcasting, giving fans watching on ITV4 extended coverage of the world’s fastest motorcycle racing championship.”
