Video: Hear the astonishing difference between GTE, GT3 and GT4

Whether you’re a road car fanatic or a die-hard motorsport fan, chances are you’ve noticed the world of motoring has got a little quieter in recent years. The Ferrari 488 shouts an awful lot less than the 458, and the current hybrid, turbocharged 1.6-litre Formula 1 cars are muted compared to the V8s, V10s and V12s of the past.

If you’re searching for another example look no further than the new Aston Martin Vantage race cars. Whether it’s a GTE, GT3 or GT4 car, the V8 bark is very, very different to that of the previous Vantage, arguably one of the loudest, most brutal sounding GT cars competing anywhere in the world (stand next to an old Vantage or Corvette C7 GT car and you’d likely perforate an ear drum).

What’s interesting, though, is the difference between the Vantage GTE, GT3 and GT4 you see here. The GTE, Aston’s ultimate Vantage race car, sounds so much quieter and so much less like a V8 than both the GT3 or GT4. Which one sounds best? We’ll let you be the judge of that.
