Building and running an RC car at some point is almost a rite of passage for any gear head, be it petrol or electric, Tamiya or otherwise. In today’s video we’re looking at just that, the building and running of a Tamiya RC car and it’s weirdly therapeutic.
Video: This Tamiya model looks more complicated than an actual car
What there’s absolutely no getting away from is how involved it is. Let’s not beat about the bush, this is the preparation and construction of a small car. Even on a time lapse that’s been sped up many times, this is a 53-minute video. One of these could be the perfect project for the budding mechanic in your life.
As for what it actually is? The Tamiya faithful will recognise that it’s nothing less than an Avante, or rather a modern recreation of the iconic 1988 classic model. Described by the video’s creator as “undoubtedly not just one of Tamiya’s most iconic RC cars but probably one of the top iconic cars in the history of the RC industry”. High praise indeed and truthfully, it still looks amazing today. How otherworldly must this thing have looked in 1988? The video’s creator highlights that some say it’s too bling and over-engineered. To us, anyone that says something can be over-engineered isn’t a fan of engineering.
