The S2000R is the Type R Honda never made

Bored of waiting for Honda to revive the S2000 sportscar? Evasive Motorsports has the next best thing, with a resto-mod called the S2000R. It effectively imagines what it would look like if it were still in production all these years on and had got the Type R treatment. The headline points? It’s packing modern Type R turbo power.

It’s not just a pop-and-swap, either. Open the bonnet and you’re treated to a properly pretty bay, with the K20C1’s turbocharger fed by a spectacular Mugen carbon-fibre intake. There’s a bespoke inlet and exhaust – the latter made out of titanium.

What Evasive calls “one of the greatest driver’s cars ever produced” gets gently updated looks thanks to the special Honda 20th Anniversary bumper. Meanwhile, the front lip, bonnet, wings, boot lid and spoiler join the red badges, EVS wheels, and Championship White paint to make this a fabulous ‘what if’ of an S2000 Type R.

A couple of nice touches are the haunches aft the headrests and the Spoon Sports Aero mirrors. The Type R theme continues on the inside, with the airbag-less NSX Type R-esque Momo wheel joining a digital display and red-trimmed Recaro Podium carbon bucket seats.

Much of the new exterior bodywork bar the OEM+ front bumper is carbon, which along with the interior work adds to the selective weight-saving regime. The new engine is quite different in character and delivery to the old F20C, so Evasive has seen fit to make some chassis enhancements too, with custom KW Coilovers joining Eibach Swaybars and special S2000R bushings.

Perhaps the most important upgrade for an S2000 now packing well over 320PS? Probably the S2R-spec Brembo brakes, with six and four pistons respectively at the front and rear. Finally, for those who know the stock S2000 shares a diff with LSD-equipped Mazda MX-5s, you’ll be happy to hear the S2000R has a strengthened casing with custom OS Giken mechanical internals.

All in all? It’s an absolutely fantastic-looking thing, though we can’t help but wonder how the character of the car has changed with the new turbocharged engine. Either way, we’ll never say no to one of our favourite modern sportscars getting a new lease of life. Evasive says the car we see here is chassis 000 and they’re taking enquiries now.
