Audi doesn’t go too mad too often with its well-defined slate of performance cars but when it comes time to say goodbye, occasionally, it goes a bit crazy. The new RS6 GT is the latest example of that, waving off the C8 generation of Audi’s biggest, fastest wagon.

Inspired by the RS6 GTO concept and indeed the IMSA racers that inspired that, the RS6 GT comes clothed in a stunning GTO-inspired livery while wearing epic retro six-spoke wheels. Completing the visual treat is the same style wing as seen on the concept car, topping the RS6 GT’s tailgate.
Power isn’t up, unfortunately, though 630PS (463kW) from its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 should remain sufficient for this absolute bruiser. What the GT does pack is a revised chassis to make the best of the power it already has, with three-way adjustable coilover suspension and a revised sport diff.

It now also comes fitted with new Continental SportContact 7 tyres which have been sweeping recent independent tyre tests. The result should be a more dynamic, rear-biased fast estate. Quite an exciting prospect given how good the C8 RS6 already is.
Interestingly, the RS6 GT gets some carbon bodywork – a first for the model. On the inside buyers will be reminded of their choice to plump for the GT every time they open the door to get in, thanks to carbon-backed seats with model-specific embroidery. Otherwise, it’s not all that IMSA-inspired inside, being as plush and feature-laden as any other RS6, though there’s the odd plaque and of course, a smattering of exclusive stitching.

Very much in the spirit of the original RS2, which was a collaborative effort with Porsche, the RS6 GT requires a special touch in its production. While mostly being assembled at the usual Neckarsulm factory, each car will actually make its way across to the R8 plant for final touches. These include those carbon body panels, the rear wing and the trick suspension.
Just 660 RS6 GTs are to be made, with 60 allocated for sale in the UK at a sturdy £176,975. In other words, it’s the better part of an entire RS3 more expensive than the next most expensive RS6. Worth it? Being as limited as it is and signifying what it does, it has a solid chance of holding its money. Then again, everyone said that about the BMW M5 CS.
