Aston Martin has taken its next step towards electrification, or rather, funding it, with a £9million grant coming from the UK government’s Advanced Propulsion Centre. The grant comes in support of Aston Martin’s research and development of a forthcoming BEV platform.

“The award of funding from the APC is another major boost to our electrification strategy and constant strive for innovation,” said Roberto Fideli, Group Chief Technology Officer of Aston Martin.
“Providing further resources to explore the possibilities of our bespoke BEV platform, it will help achieve our ambition to be an in-house BEV technology leader in the ultra-luxury, high-performance segment. We look forward to progressing this project with our collaborative partners and thank the APC for their incredible support.”

The news comes following both the most recent announcement that the Yew Tree consortium, lead by Aston chairman Lawrence Stroll, has buffed its stake in the marque by 26million ordinary shares, for a total 26.23 per cent stake held in the firm.
Aston Martin has also recently entered into a long-term partnership with Lucid on the development of high-performance all-electric powertrains. All-electric Aston GT and SUV models of the near future could potentially pack quad-motor powertrains and well in excess of 1,000PS, while still offering competitive, if not class-leading range figures.
