Alpine teases new A110, roadster and four‑seat sports GT

Of course the A290 (Alpine’s Renault 5) comes first in 2024, with a C-segment vehicle Alpine refers to as a ‘crossover GT’, following in 2025. The second-generation all-electric A110 – now no longer a co-development with Lotus – is coming in 2026. As for everything else? 

Well, that’s where the really juicy news comes in. Also planned for the platform are an A110-based roadster and then, a new A310, described by Alpine as a four-seat sports coupe. After that, D- and E-segment entries, otherwise known as BMW 3 and 5 Series-sized cars. 

“This comprehensive range of sports cars will cement our market share in our key markets in Europe and Japan,” said Laurent Rossi, CEO of Alpine.

“It will turbocharge our international growth, particularly in the USA and Asia, where our new models will be on sale from 2027. Our goal is to expand from a niche segment brand to a fully-fledged global brand.”

So what about this platform then? It’s called the APP or ‘Alpine Performance Platform’, an adjustable platform intended to spawn the A110 and the above A110-adjacent sportscar models. This is what is now under development independent of Lotus, with Alpine ascertaining that it can get the job done on budget internally, utilising other Renault Group resources to get it over the line.

As for Alpine’s goals with this new range of cars? Well, they’re now subtle. From 2022 to 2030, it wants a compound annual growth rate of 40 per cent, with a break-even operating margin and €2billion in revenues in 2026. By the end of 2026, the range will be 100 per cent electric, with net-zero carbon production by 2030. Powering the revenues and volume will be a massive expansion, which from 2027, will see Alpine expand into the USA and China.

Big plans for the principled little sportscar maker. Let’s hope everything that makes the current A110 excellent isn’t lost in the expansion ambitions…
