Video: Why Porsche didn't build the 919 Street

Bringing some delightful distraction to an otherwise difficult year was Porsche, with its Unseen project. The marque, in an unprecedented move, revealed and showcased a selection of design studies and prototypes that ordinarily wouldn’t get to see the light of day. Cars to be revealed included the Vision Spyder – a tribute to the original 550 Spyder, the 960 Turismo – a vision of a four-door 918 and our favourite, the 919 Street. The most tantalising pieces of forbidden motoring fruit in modern memory.

The Unseen book will contain all of these wonderful prototypes and explanations of them but Porsche has also shown them off online. We've previously written about some of them, with stunning pictures, in a little more detail. This video, however, gives us an in-depth look around a number of these prototypes, with special insights from those closest to them, most notably, Porsche head of design, Michael Mauer. Is it too much to ask for a visually unchanged finished and fully-functioning 919 Street to be waiting outside on Christmas Day?
