Video: F1-engined Transit van tears up the Hill

Ford Transits may usually have no place here at Goodwood, but sometimes we just have to make exceptions.

And when it’s the Transit Supervan 3, driven by none other than touring car ace and GT driver Anthony Reid, we all but roll out the red carpet.

The Transit Supervan has existed in various guises since the original made its debut at the Easter 1971 meeting at Brands Hatch. With a Mark 1 Transit bodyshell sat atop a GT40 chassis and a mid-mounted 400bhp V8, it could reach a ton and a half while masquerading as a plumber’s van.

And it became somewhat of a tradition for Ford to accompany new generations of the Transit with a Supervan. The iteration that tore up the hillclimb at the 2013 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard was the third gen, created by DRL engineering in 1994 and powered by a Cosworth HB engine.

Watch as it tears up the hillclimb with reckless abandon, its 3.5-litre V8 screaming and popping in agreement. While it may not have set any speed records, Reid certainly takes the title of the fastest white van man up the Hill.
