There’s nothing quite like a pre-war grid – the unpredictability of the huge, heaving engines and the complex procedures required to even get the cars off the startline.
And this is a prime example, as we join Charles Knill-Jones in his race-winning Bugatti Type 59, as he contests the BOC Williams Trophy race at VSCC Snetterton back in 2015.
Leading the pre-1935 2-seater Grand Prix car race, the Type 59 thunders around the Norfolk circuit, Knill-Jones gripping the wooden and metal spoke steering wheel behind the tiny windshield. And watch from an excellent angle as the narrow wheels tremble across the SN200 configuration’s two miles and eight turns of tarmac.
Ultimately, after a closely contended 15-minute race, Knill-Jones leads Julian Majzub and Simon Diffey to respectable second and third positions.
