There’s never any shortage of wild moments to look back on after a weekend of hell-for-leather historic racing at Goodwood. The 80th Members’ Meeting is no exception. In fact, we reckon our competitors really put it on the line this year and gave us one of the best compilations of crazy we’ve ever put together.
Video: The 11 craziest moments of the 80th Members' Meeting
Every kind of crazy thing it’s possible to do with a racing car – save for the unpublishable stuff – happened, pretty much. Near misses, bumps, spins, flames, lock-ups, disintegrating bodywork and more, all amid battles that took our breath away.
We begin with Jim Morris in his wonderful Golf GTI, who gave it everything to pass Nick Swift for the lead in Heat 2 of the Gordon Spice Trophy. He overcooked it somewhat on the way out onto the start/finish straight, just missing the tyre wall. Then we had a properly mad off with a white Austin-Healey that was already carrying a sign board on its nose, sliding right, then left, then right across the pack and off the track. He did well to avoid a smash, as did the Datapost Mini that went bouncing across the grass.
In the Gurney Cup, the Chevron that decided to disintegrate made for particularly fun viewing, as was a great GT40 last-second pass from a GT40. All these incredible moments join madness from the Salvadori Cup, Threlfall Cup, Jim Clark Trophy and more that make up our top moments from the weekend. Do you agree?
