Goodwood’s auction partner Bonhams’ annual Aston Martin and Lagonda sale, at the British manufacturer’s Newport Pagnell Works site on May 21, always throws up a surprise or two – particularly among marque collectors and enthusiasts.

Ex‑Moss Aston Martin DB3S To Fetch £7MILLION!
The 2016 event again includes a stunning array of road and racing machines, but the feature car that leaps out of the catalogue is surely a highly prized DB3S sports-racer from the company’s halcyon days of 1950s endurance racing.
This 1954, Frank Feeley-designed DB3S, chassis number DB3S/5, was raced in the World Sportscar Championship by British aces Stirling Moss, Peter Collins and Roy Salvadori – but not before it had been the personal transport of Aston Martin owner David Brown.
Following crashes involving three of the works DB3Ss during the 1954 Le Mans 24 Hours, the Aston Martin Competition Department’s stocks were low, forcing Brown to give up his road rocket for conversion into a full-blown racer.
After retirement from racing, with a CV that boasted events such as the Mille Miglia and the Nürburgring 1,000km, chassis 5 was used by screen funnyman Terry Thomas in the 1960s comedy School for Scoundrels.
The estimated hammer price for such beauty, rarity and provenance? £6million-7million! With that many noughts involved, we’re pretty sure it’ll go to a good home. And if we’re really lucky, we’ll soon see it competing here at Goodwood…
