The 78th Members’ Meeting is fast approaching, and we’re preparing ourselves for an action-packed racing weekend. Something we’re particularly looking forward to is the new Rally Sprint, upon which cars from various eras will feature.

With the likes of a Renault 5 Maxi Turbo, Lancia Delta S4, MG Metro 6R4, Ford RS 200 and a Peugeot 205 T16 all dating from the mid-‘80s, we decided to look back through the internet archives to find them in action. And somewhere down the rabbit hole we stumbled upon this feature-length first stage of the penultimate round of the 1986 World Rally Championship.
Presented by William Woollard (no one has ever been able to lean on a car with quite such style), with commentary by Barrie Gill and Tony Mason, the grainy footage was originally broadcast live from Badminton as part of the BBC Rally Report '86. It has since been converted from video and uploaded to YouTube earlier this year.
