Money is the key to motorsport. It’s a sad fact but it’s true. You either need some money, or need to know someone with money to go motor racing at the top level.

Fortunately, if you’re a celebrity, you tend to either have a) the money to or b) the ability to attract people with money to fund your racing ambitions. So over the decades that the terms “racing driver” and “celebrity” have both existed, the two have intermingled several times.
Some have had great success, some you may not even remember, some haven’t exactly shone brightly, and some have even had such a bad time that they’re not allowed to go near a car again for insurance reasons.
Here’s a few who have had varying experiences, but we’ve definitely missed out some (Paul Newman), so let us know in the comments who we should add to the next one.
