The most beautiful film ever made. Fact. You can keep Up and that shopping bag floating in the wind scene from American Beauty. They can’t hold a candle to Climb Dance. The award-winning film created by Jean Louis Mourey is a simple premise. You take one of the best rally drivers of all time and one of the most dangerous and picturesque hillclimbs in the world and you’ve created art.
Video: Climb Dance is still one of the best motoring videos ever
In 1988, Ari Vatanen slid the iconic Peugeot 405 T16 up Pikes Peak, setting the record time. The entire video is just stunning. It’s what that clichéd phrase ‘poetry in motion’ was invented for. We were lucky enough to have the car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard and it stole the attention of pretty much every petrolhead that walked past.
In Climb Dance, there is a little bit of jazz and arty film antics at the start, which are… fine, but we recommend skipping to 1:05 to get straight to the action. One of the best moments by far is the nonchalant one-handed driving as Ari blocks out the sun as he nears the summit and races above the clouds. Enough talk. Sit back and soak in the most beautiful film ever made.
