Of all the cars you might associate with Laguna Seca, one of the great American circuits, the Mini is not one of them. Well, sometimes fire meets ice, as this modified Mini takes on the Corkscrew Hillclimb.
Video: Tackling the Corkscrew the wrong way at Laguna Seca
This footage uploaded by the Revs Institute introduces an interesting new way to tackle one of the most famous corners in the world: the Corkscrew. In this incredibly special event you actually have to go the wrong way round the track when taking part. You climb the steep and fast final sector of the track towards the Corkscrew, which is obviously also a massive incline in this format.
As we can see in the Mini, with its tiny wheelbase and skinny tyres which make it a unique car to drive in even the most mundane scenarios, loses its balance making the Corkscrew climb, resulting in an uphill spin. Big whoops! Happily, it was a no-contact whoopsie, so our driver Gunnar Jeanette spun it back round and headed across the line. It's great to see a new use for the stunning circuit that is Laguna Seca!
