The new Renault Twingo is a fine little car. Cute, subtle and stylish in a way only the French can pull off, and furnished with some seriously clever trinketry that makes it the capable city car that it is.

Video: This is why Renault should have built the Twin'Run
Yet in spite of this, anyone that is more familiar with Renault’s red-blooded side can’t help but feel slightly disappointed with it. That’ll be because Renault Sport (said red-blooded side) previewed the Twingo with the furiously awesome Twin’Run concept a few years back.
Half-ode to Clio V6, half-‘will we won’t we’, we saw and heard it hammer the hill at FOS 2013 (as shown in the video above) and we were in love. But it was never meant to be – a trick that Renault seems to continue to pull, in recent times, with the R.S.16 Clio. At least we’re getting the Alpine sportscar in place of that. As for the Twin'Run, the current Twingo GT it's fair to say doesn't quite fill the boots, and the fire-spitting V6 mid-engined rabid blue creature that we originally fell for is little but history. We are at least thankful they built one at all!
