Boutique Italian supercar duo breaks out
On the left is the Fittipaldi EF7 – a track-only supercar designed by Pininfarina and the idea of the great double F1 world champion, Emerson Fittipaldi.
Next to it is another new supercar venture, this time a limited edition road/track model from ItalDesign, and called ZeroUno (number one).
Both cars were only seen for the first time four months ago at the Geneva Motor Show, so to see them next to each other in a very real-world setting is revealing. Even among all the wild and wonderful supercars in the Supercar Paddock, this pair of Italian beauties stops people in their tracks.
The ZeroUno at Goodwood is one of just five cars to be made. Based around the 600bhp running gear of the Audi R8, the 205mph flying wedge of carbon-fibre has been designed around its aerodynamics. The car is due to take part in the Supercar Run when it can demonstrate its 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds.
The Fittipaldi alas is not yet ready to take on the hill. At Geneva in March Emerson told us: “I will drive it up the hill for sure – the Festival of Speed is part of my life. But that won’t be this year. I will drive it up the hill in 2018.”
Emerson’s idea for the 600bhp car – which he says has been his dream since he was 22 – is to make it safe, light weight and easy for any driver to enjoy on a track. He has promised to personally deliver each one and take owners out for a track driving lesson.
While there will only be five ItalDesign ZeroUnos, the new US-based Fittipaldi Motors company wants to make 39 EF7s. Why 39? To mark all Emerson’s victories: 14 F1 wins, two F1 world titles, 22 Indycar wins and one Indycar title.
