700bhp Mustang to pay homage to WWII fighters at FOS
&width=1600)
Maryland meets Sussex in the form of the one-off Eagle Squadron Mustang GT, a 700-horsepower supercharged V8 Mustang with carbon-fibre wide body that has been built by Vaughn and Ford Performance. Appropriately it takes its inspiration from RAF Eagle squadrons that flew over Goodwood during the Second World War. Eagle squadrons included American pilots who had volunteered to fight prior to the US entering the war. The car will be auctioned in aid of a charity supporting young pilots when it returns to the US for the Experimental Aircraft Association’s largest fundraiser, The Gathering, held on July 26 during the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh fly-in in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
“Supporting young pilots through the EAA charity auction reflects Ford’s aviation history, tracing back to the company’s early days and the Arsenal of Democracy during WWII,” said Darrell Behmer, Ford Mustang design chief. “The Eagle Squadron Mustang GT build with Vaughn and the Ford design team is a great way to honor our heroes and keep the spirit of aviation alive for the next generation of American pilots.”
