The Lavant Cup is usually a highlight of the annual Revival, but this year the race unfolded during October’s SpeedWeek presented by Mastercard, and with a twist. Combining early 1950’s racers from the Freddie March Memorial Trophy with later sportscars of the Sussex Trophy, it was an action-packed race between D-types, Maserati Birdcage, Tojeiro, Lister Costin, Maserati 300S, Coopers and more.

With huge power coursing through their narrow tyres, the 50’s challengers danced on the edge of grip, sliding through Goodwood’s iconic curves with incredible finesse.
The headline battle of the 20-minute competition unfolded between Goodwood regular James Cottingham in a 1959 Tojeiro-Jaguar and former Sebring 12 Hour winner Marino Franchitti behind the wheel of a Maserati Tipo 61 'Birdcage' from the same year. From the off, they danced and duelled as Franchitti pushed for his first ever Goodwood win, and Cottingham chased after him. Who came out on top? Did Franchitti grab his first win at Goodwood?
