It's not hard to see why sportscars of the 1950s hold such fascination. They represent the turning point between the old era of racing, which really had begun before World War II, and the '60s with the tentative beginnings of the professional era.

There’s no better way to view this today than the Tony Gaze Trophy at the 72^nd Goodwood Members’ Meeting. Named after the Spitfire pilot who first suggested racing at what was RAF Westhampnett, the race represents the march of racing technology from the 1940s right up to the cusp of the Swinging ‘60s.

Of course this was also when national rivalries came to the fore once more. Straight-sixes in the Jaguar XK150, Aston Martin DB2/4 and AC Ace take on the legendary V12 in the Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France in this race from the 72nd Members’ Meeting at Goodwood in 2014. Originally run in 1949, the Members’ Meeting was one of the highlights of the Goodwood racing calendar. Resurrected in 2014, it has become a firm favourite once more.
