17th October 2021
Goodwood Road & Racing

Their tyres had barely finished cooling from yesterday’s furious Goodwood Super Special presented by Cooper Tires, but the rally cars were raring to go come daybreak.

And while the visitors pouring through the gates of the 78th Members’ Meeting were still bleary eyed and coffee-deprived, our host of talented drivers were behind their wheels and waiting. Come 08:00 and off they went, first for practice and then the second of their timed sprints.

In a repeat of last night’s pitch-black action, the 14 Group A, Group B, Group 4 and WRC cars took on the course, the twist being they now had to run in the opposite direction to Saturday. It was a dramatic half hour, with plenty of sideways action and even a few mishaps – bale clipping and Blomqvist overshooting. Perhaps most impressive of all was David Wright, who sent his Ford Focus WRC fully sideways over the line, still enough for second place.

Martin Overington took the Group 4 and Group B class in his MG Metro 6R4 in just 75.30 seconds, while Will Nicholls in his Subaru Impreza won the Group A and WRC cohort, at 62.60 – more than 15 seconds faster than Stig Blomqvist’s winning run last night.
