Honouring Goodwood’s greatest heroes is a responsibility not to be underestimated. Considered a privilege of the job, the whole team commits an enormous amount of time and hard-work behind the scenes to make these celebrations of notable drivers and their accomplishments worthy of the irreplaceable people they represent. It’s why it was decided to extend the fan-favourite Gurney Cup – named after Goodwood’s much-missed friend Dan Gurney – into the second premier two-driver race of the 78th Members' Meeting weekend.

Graduating to an inaugural 45-minute format, the packed field of World Championship sports prototypes that raced between 1960 and 1966 were unleashed to help remember one of the sport's greatest all-rounders. Having won races in Formula 1, IndyCar, NASCAR, Can-Am, and the Trans-Am Series, along with being forever linked to the Champagne moment after winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1967, Dan Gurney was and remains a giant of motor racing.
Featuring GT40s, McLaren-Chevrolet M1As, Lotus-Ford 23Bs and Elva-BMWs, handled by some monstrous driver pairings from modern and historic racing alike, the Gurney Cup was a fast and fully committed spectacle, without ever compromising on the ideals of gentlemanly sportsmanship.
