The unmistakably shrill cry of a V8-engined Formula 1 car has been ringing out around the Goodwood Motor Circuit during the 83rd Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport, but you’ll know that already if you live within 100 miles of here.

Jenson Button ran from the Jaguar E-type he’d just been driving for Official Practice of the Protheroe Cup, jumped straight into the cockpit of his 2009 World Championship-winning Brawn GP car on Saturday and proceeded to treat us all to an incredible demonstration of what made this era of F1 so memorable.
It feels a long time ago now since those V8s were the soundtrack of our Sunday afternoons, but the memories all came flooding back as he put his foot down for the first time.
He wasn’t hanging around either, Button got very quickly up to speed in a car he’s only driven a handful of times since his title-winning campaign 17 years ago. We imagine it’s similar to riding a bike, but pushing a car like that around Goodwood is probably a little different to what he’s used to.
It was a little bumpy in places perhaps, but that did little to stifle his enthusiasm as he climbed up through the gears and unleashed all 750 horses at a staggering 18,000rpm.
The Members’ Meeting always offers something a little bit special, and this year we’ve hit the jackpot as we remember one of motorsport’s greatest ever stories. To see that iconic livery resplendent in the sunshine here at Goodwood is a true once in a lifetime opportunity. Twice actually, because we’ll get another chance to see Button in his Brawn when he returns tomorrow.
Tickets for the 84th Members’ Meeting will be available immediately after this year’s event for Members and Fellows of the GRRC. Admission and Grandstand tickets will go on sale on Monday 20th April for Members, and Tuesday 21st April for Fellows.
