The Goodwood Motor Circuit is notoriously fast, and no one knows it better than the brave bikers who line up for the annual Barry Sheene Memorial and Hailwood Trophies. And at this weekend’s 78th Members’ Meeting, the sole two-wheeled event saw saw a mixed bag of 250cc and 350cc Grand Prix and F750 machines, with the former contesting the Hailwood Trophy and the latter the Sheene class.

Ultimately, however, it was every man for himself, and the race developed into a three-way battle between a pair of the smaller-engined bikes and one of the 750cc machines.

After an initial jostle for the front, three clear leaders emerged in James Hiller, aboard a 1980 Yamaha TZ350G, Richard Wilson on his 1972 Triumph Trident and Dan Jackson, riding a 1981 Yamaha TZ350. And despite the Trident boasting more than both its opponents’ capacities combined, it became a case of slight over might, as TT racer James Hillier outsmarted Wilson for the win.
