When you let a grid of around 30 Formula 1 cars from the 1950s go from a standing start, they’re pretty much guaranteed to be in one hell of a fight within a matter of seconds.
Video: Brilliant F1 chaos
That was exactly what happened during the Richmond and Gordon Trophies at the Goodwood Revival in 2018. At the front the Cooper T53 of William Nutthall and the Lotus 18 of outright lap record-holder Nick Padmore battled for the lead, pulling quickly away from the mass of F1 cars behind them. It gets so fraught in that battle for third and back that it’s hard to work out who is where until at least lap two.
But we’re not going to complain about that kind of brilliant racing, and you will be able to see these cars, and those like them, battling at the Goodwood SpeedWeek in October!
