Video: Thrashing James Hunt's F1 car round Monaco

29th April 2021

You know that moment of total, unbridled fear and exhilaration when you’re pumped full of adrenaline, lining up on the grid in Monaco in an F1 car? No, neither do we, but this video gives us some idea of just how bonkers it would be.

In case you weren’t watching our terrific stream of the Monaco Historique this past weekend, it was a fantastic weekend of real-life motorsport. Not a restream, not an esports event but actual racing around the streets of Monte Carlo.

The car is James Hunt’s Hesketh 308, the car that took Hunt to three podiums in the 1974 F1 season, and the driver is former F1 driver Jean-Denis Delétraz and father of Louis Delétraz, current European Le Mans Series driver and an F2 regular for the last four years. His dad doesn’t hang about, launching off the line from the back of the grid and steaming his way forward. The noise is incredible and the view intense. We might not have driven around the Monaco GP circuit but at least videos like this get us a little closer.

Welcome to Goodwood Elevenses, a mid-morning helping of motoring-related amusement to help break up your day. Watch the last video: The raw sound of McLaren F1's V12 is sublime
