Fernando Alonso’s 2004 Formula 1 car is up for sale and it’s actually cheaper than you might imagine. Just £385,000 could buy you Alo’s Renault R24 from the last three rounds of the 2004 Formula 1 season.

The car will be up for grabs at RM Sotheby’s Paris sale on 2nd February 2022, 18 years on from the R24 platform’s season debut. It was the real beginning of the road to Renault’s world championships in 2005 and 2006. The R24 did away with the 111-degree V10 in place of the stiffer, easier-to-package and more powerful 72-degree V10, allowing greater aerodynamic freedom. In the year of the titanic Ferrari F2004, the R24 was an entirely worthy underdog, taking third in the constructor’s championship.

This car put in a good points-scoring shift, too. In China, Alonso drove it home to fourth, in Japan fifth and Brazil fourth – essential solid finishing positions to cement that third-placed standing.

The car’s history following its contemporary racing career is squeaky clean too, having stayed at Renault/Alpine until 2016, when the current owner acquired the car. The car is presented now in the Mild Seven and Telefonica livery, with the iconic blue and yellow colours, it wore for the last three races of the 2004 season.
