Can-Am-style V8 muscle, single-seater slight-of-form. That’s a recipe for noise and speed quite unlike anything else. Like Formula 1 but with any delusions of delicacy and sophistication squashed by big belching 5-litre V8s.
As you’ve probably already read, the rolling thunder of Formula 5000 is due to take over the 76th Members’ Meeting for some high-speed demonstrations in less than a month. Some period footage of these monsters in action should whet the pallet suitably. Even through the grainy 1970s footage, you can see these brutes getting sideways under the weight of a 5-litre tower of power. We can’t wait to get up close with these things as they stretch their legs at Goodwood, even though we’ll likely be deafened…
