Video: On board 2024 Isle of Man TT lap of the gods

The Isle of Man TT is where men go to question whether their powers are those of ordinary men or something more. Most find that they’re a totally different species to the rest of us. At least, that’s my working theory, because this lap of the Island by Davey Todd doesn’t seem like one possible by mortal men.

Todd wastes no time in fully extending the Beemer as he exits the pits, barrelling down into the TT’s immediate peaks and troughs. Flying at fast-forward speeds between curbs and stone walls, it’s not like you could even say the man was on rails, because he wasn’t. Quite often he’s in the air, almost always he’s on the absolute limit.

If you blink you’ll miss it. If Todd blinks, he’s 20 yards further up the road than when his eyes were last open, so naturally, he doesn’t blink all that much, as you can just about see on the right hand side. There’s a moment at the three-minute mark that just feels like Star Trek, or a scene from The Flash because the world is flying by at simply inconceivable pace. Watch, try to concentrate, try to keep up. We’re utterly transfixed.
