Video: This is how tricky an IndyCar is to drive first time

01st November 2018

What's the first thing you should do after winning the Indy Lights championship? Jump straight into an IndyCar, strap a visorcam on and experience a modern top-level racing car at one of the most challenging tracks in the US.

That's exactly what 2018 Indy Lights champ Patricio O'Ward did, and in doing so brought us a driver's-eye snapshot of exactly what a high-powered, low(ish) downforce single-seater is like when you jump in for the very first time. It's a slippery and steep learning curve. But O'Ward takes to it like a duck to water, gradually getting the hang of the modern-day IndyCar exactly the way that a star of the future should.
