Aston Martin reveals Valkyrie roadster

02nd August 2021

Aston Martin will be celebrating its 70th year in the USA this weekend at the 2021 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. A grand achievement, and to really make a splash the company will launch “an exciting new product which extends the brand’s performance credentials a step further”. That car is the Valkyrie roadster.

Yes, that’s right, a convertible version of the monstrous 1,176PS-plus (865kW) V12 Valkyrie hypercar. There’s only one picture of the car so far, what was meant to be a teaser, but even without bringing up the image’s exposure it’s clear to see this is a drop-top. The doors no longer gullwings but scissor items, and the tops of the carbon seats clear to see above the car’s windscreen. If Aston Martin wanted this to be a teaser photo it could have chosen a less revealing angle…

There’s zero information on the car yet, but we can assume it’ll have the same powertrain with the V12 that screams to 11,000rpm we heard so clearly at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard recently. We can also assume it’ll be sold in limited numbers, more than likely less than the standard Valkyrie.

No roof and that incredible engine is an appealing prospect. But as a product of a partnership between Aston Martin and Red Bull that has now ended with Aston left to finish the job, and therefore without the brains of F1 car designer ace Adrian Newey, you can’t help but wonder if the lack of a roof will upset the aero slightly. Still, give the people what they want…
