Fast Fords akimbo available at Silverstone Classic sale

RS500 number one is a Focus – you remember, the limited-edition beast dreamed up as a finale for the second-gen Focus RS in 2010. Think 345bhp, 2.5-litre, five-cylinder engine, gaping grille, 19-inch wheels, flared arches, deep diffuser and a big rear wing. More dramatic still, the car for sale boasts a matt black finish.

Incredibly, in seven years it has covered just 128 miles, so is virtually a delivery-miles new car. A left-hooker, it was delivered new to a Ford dealer in Switzerland where it has sat in a corner of the showroom as a display vehicle. Number 70 of the 500 cars made, this serious performer – it was honed at the Nurburgring – comes with a presale estimate of £50-60,000. 

RS500 number two is a 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth. It might be 30 years old but with 10,733 miles up this RS500 is just as much of a rarity. A right-drive UK-supplied version of the ultimate Cossie, it is number 387 of the 500 made.

The first owner sold it after 13 months to an apparently famous (but unnamed) owner who kept it for 29 years. Before its presale MoT, it was last inspected in 1991 when it had covered 10,000 miles. For the following 26 years, it sat unused in a garage on the owner’s estate. 

Cossie specialist John Taylor was charged with returning the car to mechanically sound condition but keeping it in its original unrestored state – even the Dunlop D40s are original. The interior is said to be unmarked. This RS500 comes with a presale estimate of…£90-100,000.

Silverstone Auctions says: “Sporty cars of the 1980s and ‘90s are some of the fastest appreciating classics in the current market, with the appetite for well kept, low-volume Fords, in particular, showing no signs of abating.”

The cars are being offered for sale by Silverstone Auctions at its sale at the Silverstone Classic on 29^th-30^th July.
