Gallery: The Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Lava Collection

31st July 2019
Seán Ward

It was 2016 when Aston Martin first gave us a glimpse of its latest collaboration with Zagato, the drop-dead-gorgeous Vanquish Zagato. According to Aston design chief Marek Reichman, who led the project with Andrea Zagato, it pushed “the definition of Aston Martin design”.

Then, as if one Vanquish Zagato wasn’t enough to get excited about, just two months later Aston pulled the covers off the Vanquish Zagato Volante, and after that the insanely cool Speedster and Shooting Brake Vanquish Zagatos. All in all 325 cars were built, including 99 ‘standard’ Vanquish Zagatos, 99 Volantes, 99 Shooting Brakes and 28 Speedsters. The odds of seeing an example of each in the same place, therefore, would be almost unimaginable, wouldn’t they?

Well at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard this year, the unimaginable became reality when all four Zagatos were shown together publicly for the very first time. The Lava Collection, so called because all four cars were finished with Lava Red paintwork, were on display in the Michelin Supercar Paddock all weekend and in action on the Hill, too. As you can image, four naturally-aspirated, 6.0-litre V12s howling in unison is something of an event.

In case you missed them, we had our happy team of photographers head down to their paddock shelters for a closer look. It’ll come as no surprise to say that seeing all four cars parked together felt like a dream.
