We are all familiar with the feeling of having unfinished business or a wish that we’d done a better job on a past project. Surprisingly, it’s also a feeling shared by Ian Callum, responsible for some of the most beautiful British car designs of the last few decades.

You might be familiar with a few of them including the Aston Martin DB7, DB9, Fords RS200, Escort Cosworth and Puma. Then of course the models he created for Jaguar which reinvented the company’s design language; C-X75, XJ, XF, F-Pace and F-Type. Having left the corporate world a couple of years ago Callum has founded his own design consultancy, called, with admirable directness, Callum Designs.
One of the firm’s first projects is to revisit one of Callum’s most lauded designs, the Aston Martin Vanquish, which he regards as unfinished business. The Aston Martin Callum Vanquish 25 firstly celebrates a quarter century since it debuted but secondly transforms it into the car Callum wished to design in the first place. We visited their premises to talk to the Callum and his team, take a spin in the car and talk about the importance of design in everyday life.
